Your Skin Guide for your 20's, 30's, 40's and Beyond!

Is it time for your to start preventing premature aging, or do you need to kick it up a notch and start reversing signs of aging? Here's a simple guide that will take your through your 20's, 30's, 40's and beyond.

20's Prevention-

Always wear sunscreen with an SPF of 15-30 whenever you're in the sun. And remember to reapply every two hours if you are in the sun for an extended period. Sunscreen will start breaking down and become ineffective after that. I love the Photo-Age Environmental Gel in SPF 15 & SPF 30. They are both water based, super lightweight, and won't cause you to breakout. Use alpha hydroxy acids (AHA's) like Glycolic and Lactic acid at night only. This will increase your natural cell turnover rate to a healthier and quicker pace. It will also exfoliate dead skin cells, as well as restructure your collagen and elastin in the deepest layers. It is not recommended to use this in the morning because it can make you more photo-sensitive and more likely to burn. I prefer the AHA Accelerator for normal to oily skin types or the Treatment Cream for normal to dry or aging skin types. Topical use of antioxidants is very important to protect your skin from the free radicals in the environment that mutate your cells and cause wrinkles (not to mention skin cancer!) As well as a brightener that will regulate your melanocyte cells so you don't produce sun spots in the first place. My favorite is the Living Cell Clarifier which is packed full of antioxidants and skin brighteners. Recommended in-office procedures: Monthly microdermabrasion and/or mild chemical peels to prevent and remove dead skin cells from building up. More often for acneic skin types to decongest and rapidly dry out breakouts.

30's Prevent & Reverse-

Continue with the tips for your 20's and add an eye cream and night creams containing Peptides. Peptides are amino acid chains that are also referred to as cellular communicators that are very compatible with the skin. Neuro peptides have the ability to initiate cellular activity that communicate with your muscles, similar to Botox, to reduce the intensity of facial expressions, lessening wrinkle depth. My favorites are the Anti-wrinkle Eye Cream & Intense Peptide Skin Recovery. Start rotating in a Retinol a couple nights a week in place of your AHA's. This will continue with speeding up skin cell regeneration and building collagen to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and acne scarring. Retinol is derived from vitamin A and functions via several pathways to guard against normal and sun induced aging. My favorite is the Retinol Restart Rejuvenation Serum because it's unique formula is micro-encapsulated, allowing it to penetrate quickly and allows for the slower release of the retinol over the course of several hours, thereby allowing the skin to fully utilizes and benefit from all the retinol without any irritation and dryness. Recommended in-office procedures: Bi-weekly/weekly microdermabrasion and/or medium chemical peels to remove any accrued sun spots and soften the appearance of any fine lines that are starting to appear. Once a month maintenance after that.

40's Rewind the clock-

Keep up the regimen from the 20's and 30's sections but increase the use of the Retinol Restart Rejuvenation Serum to every other night. Recommended in-office procedures: Chemical peels containing Retinol, Glycolic Acid, and Lactic Acid to treat fine lines, wrinkles, and sun spots.

50's+ Age gracefully-

At this point you may want to decrease the use of your Retinol and AHA's if your skin is becoming more sensitive. This is also a great time to start using Menopause Corrective Skin Serum+ if you are experiencing dehydration and loss of elasticity due to menopause. Recommended in-office procedures: I recommend monthly chemical peels containing Antioxidants, Glycolic Acid, and Lactic Acid to treat aging and dehydration. If you still have sun spots you may want to do a series of peels to quickly remove them and then move to monthly maintenance.
